A HIVE AT HOME
Pollen brings beekeeping into your garden as a fully managed service. Your hive becomes part of the landscape, a living presence to observe through the seasons, while the care stays with us.
THE POLLEN SERVICE
-
We select the hive and establish the colony for your property specifically, considering how the garden is used and where the light falls.
The hive is chosen to sit well in the landscape rather than announce itself. Most guests notice the bees before they notice the hive.
-
Southern California barely lets a colony rest, so the work follows the season rather than a fixed calendar.
We return at the intervals the colony calls for, and we watch the hive between visits, so we usually arrive already knowing how it has been.
-
Most of what we do is quiet and preventive: giving the colony room before it needs room, watching for the small changes that come before the visible ones.
Queens are chosen for gentle temperament. A calm hive is the difference between bees you enjoy and bees you tolerate.
-
When the season gives enough, we take the surplus and leave the colony well provisioned. The bees come first, which sometimes means a smaller harvest.
Yours is extracted on its own, never blended with another garden. Two gardens a mile apart taste noticeably different.
-
You have the phone number of the beekeeper who opens your hive. Not an office, not a ticket.
After each visit you receive a note. What we saw, what we did, what comes next.
PRICING
Every garden is different, so we begin with a complimentary site visit before recommending the setup best suited to your property.
You will then receive a clear proposal outlining:
ONE-TIME INSTALLATION: $100
This covers the preparation and installation of the hive and colony at your property.
ONGOING SUBSCRIPTION: FROM $300 PER MONTH
Pollen provides the hive, colony, and equipment for the duration of your subscription. Your subscription covers the year-round care and expertise required to keep the colony healthy and thoughtfully managed.
We usually recommend two hives. Together, they provide stronger pollination for your garden and a more reliable honey harvest, even when one colony has a quieter season. Each year, we take on a small number of new gardens. Spring is when colonies establish best, and those placements are arranged first, so we recommend beginning the conversation well in advance.
